Yukky Yuk

July 27, 2012

Down South there is a wonderfully succinct catch-all expression when pretty much everything about the subject in question just plain stinks: “Yukky” or “Yuk”. Tonight’s Indians loss to the Twins was Yukky Yuk.

One thing fans find so maddening about this team is the incredible inconsistency. Coming off a stirring comeback win last night over Verlander and the Tigers the Indians were completely punchless and apathetic and managed only 3 hits (none until 2 outs in the 5th inning).

To actually contend the Tribe needs to start decisively winning games against lower level opponents like the Twins (3-3) and Royals (5-4).

– Tomlin was awful and now sits at 5-8 on the year with a fat 5.87 ERA.

– His ERA in the 1st inning is 11.40 and in the last three starts he’s put the team down 3-0, 2-0 and 3-0. With the Tribe’s anemic offense this is a quick death sentence.

– Tonight he gave up two singles and a 3-run HR to Morneau in the 1st and then five straight hits (including another 3-run HR to Willingham) in the 4th for an 8-0 deficit. Game over.

– The closest thing to an Indians rally were two 2 out singles by Hafner and Lopez in the 5th. Duncan then struck out on 3 pitches.

– Cody Allen pitched 2 more scoreless innings. Accardo gave up 3 additional runs in relief, as if it mattered.

– Give credit to the Twins’ Scott Diamond, a soft tossing lefty who pitched the complete game 3 hit shutout. Only a handful of balls were hit hard.

– The Twins came in losers of 11 of their last 15. We changed that in a hurry.

– The Indians went 1-2-3 SEVEN times.

Yukky yuk.
