Just a quick note to say that Johnny Damon is officially on the roster as of this afternoon, and the odd man out is, as suspected, infielder Jose Lopez, who has been designated for assignment. Lopez had a fine Spring Training, hitting .327 with a .364 OBP. But thus far during the regular season, he’s only appeared in five games, going 4 for 21 (.190). Lifetime, he’s .262/293.

Lifetime, Damon is a .286 hitter with 1643 runs scored, 516 doubles, 107 triples, 231 home runs and 1120 RBI in 2,426 games with six teams since debuting with the Kansas City Royals in 1995.  He has also stolen 404 bases in 507 attempts (80%) and owns a career on-base pct. of .353.  He currently ranks 3rd among active players in runs scored (1643) and is 4th in doubles (516) and base hits (2723).  He will wear #33.

I would presume that Lopez will be spending some time in the Columbus area in the near future. These are all the details I have right now.

I like this. Damon has hit leadoff most of his career and is more than likely going to get on base more often than Michael Brantley.
