As expected, the Indians made more cuts today. RHP Zach McAllister and INF Cord Phelps were optioned to Columbus. RHP Chen-Chang Lee and OF Trevor Crowe were reassigned to minor league camp.

And then there were 46.

I can’t say that I’m surprised McAllister went to Columbus. He didn’t exactly impress during Spring Training or in the games he pitched last year during the regular season.  I have no doubt we’ll see Cord Phelps and Chen-Chang Lee again–they just need more time. As for Trevor Crowe, he was hitting well during Spring Training but never seems able to seal the deal at the major league level.

And now back to our regularly scheduled programming.

I thought they might hold on to CC Lee a little longer for more exposure to big league hitters (or maybe they want to avoid exposure?), although he remains available in minor league camp.

They’ll wait to weed the outfield. Right now I’d say its between Cunningham (no options, on the roster and they gave up a RP for him) and Spilborghs (decent track record and better defensively but requires a roster spot). Both are RH bats, unlike Pie and Lewis who have not shown much in camp.

If Lopez sticks, Canzler is the odd man out. He resembles Duncan as an OF but has an option left. let him mash in Columbus and add him Brittle Brantley goes down.

I really like Lee,he’s got closer stuff with that funky out of the shoulder delivery.

Phelps kind of reminds me of Casey Blake and if they’re willing to try Donald in center ,why not Phelps in left? He’s got a nice swing from both sides of the plate.
