I mentioned this when I discussed Jack Graney recently, but our local SABR chapter (Society for American Baseball Research) is meeting tomorrow at Progressive Field.  With Spring Training just weeks away, it’s a great opportunity to spend a winter day talking about baseball.

Here’s the schedule for the day; you’re welcome to come for the day, or just part of the day (and you don’t need to be a SABR member to join us):

9:30 – 9:45: Welcome, news, and 2012 prediction contest results

9:45 – 9:15: Terry Pluto, Cleveland Plain Dealer, discussing his new book on Joe Tait

9:15 – 10:30: Break/time to sign books/Some book raffle numbers drawn

10:30 – 11:15: Eric Thompson: “The National League’s First Expansion Draft:  Did the Colt .45s and the Mets Have a Fair Chance?”

11:15 – 12:00: Bob DiBiasio, Cleveland Indians Senior Vice President, Public Affairs

Some raffle numbers drawn

12:00 – 1:15: Lunch on your own

1:15 – 2:00: Thomas Woodman – Project on the original 15 concrete and steel baseball parks built from 1895-1923.

2:00 – 2:35: Bob Sproule: “The First Time”

2:35 – 3:15: Joe Werner and Justice Hill: “An analysis of how the Indians will finish, record wise, in the upcoming season.”

3:15-3:30: Trivia with Rick Bradley and book raffle

The cost for attending is $3 and includes free pop and snacks.  The meeting takes place in the media room in the basement of the  ballpark and is casual attire.  We’ll have a number of books for sale from guests Terry Pluto and Eric Thompson, and I’ll have copies of my book as well.

Here is info on parking and entering the ballpark:

We may park in the player parking lot at the corner of Carnegie and E. 9th. However, this is a first come, first served scenario. Even if you must park elsewhere, you’ll still enter the building through the door in the player parking lot. There will be an attendant there to guide you downstairs to the media room. Once you arrive at the media room, you’ll sign in and pay your $3.  The entry to the building we use contains a very steep staircase. If you are unable to use that, or just aren’t comfortable using it, there is elevator access. Just to the left of the player parking lot (if you’re facing the building) there’s a door with a green awning. That’s where you enter for the elevator. You may need to notify the attendant in the player parking lot that you need to enter there; I’m not sure if that door will have an additional attendant that day or not.

Hope to see you at Progressive Field tomorrow!
