Short and quick:

If you pay attention to Indians Twitter during games, there’s one thing that is prevalent on a day-to-day basis: Panic buttons are always pressed rapidly. Going into tonight’s four-gamer against the Royals, the Indians are a ho-hum 8-10 on the year, sitting last place in last place by (depending on who you ask) a clearly insurmountable 2.5 game deficit. The season is already over to some folks and they have already moved on to the next 4-12 Browns season or Dan Gilbert’s next impulsive screw-up.

I admit, I’m guilty of being a particularly grumpy participant as well. Except mine is a day-by-day tantrum where the long-range view doesn’t even register until the end of May. Right now, we stink. My timeline is consternation overload. I’ve taken to “Bro-sigh-o” for every time Nick Swisher takes a Mark Reynoldsian hack of air; Asdrubal Cabrera looks like a guy who knows he’s gone in a few months; Michael  Bourn is essentially in extended Spring Training while on the team (while Nyjer Morgan is probably laughing at himself, knowing he’s a better fit at the moment); Yan Gomes has looked shaky defensively; Santana has been surprisingly solid defensively, but looks totally lost at the plate; Vinny Pestano has already pitched himself off the team, leading many to (rightfully) wonder if he’s done; and the rotation, Carlos Carrasco, especially…woof.

And Francona has already had to call a pep-talk team meeting, simply because he could see his players already starting to wilt. It’s not good right now.

What is good is that there are 144 games to go (Jake Taylor would like you to know that), and no one has run and hid yet. Things will turn around. Just a  reminder of that.

BREATHE.

Actually, it is no time to panic. There is a lot of season left. IIRC, they were even worse for record at this time last year. But there are some things that need to either get better or get fixed.

The tribe was 31-33 in early June last year. Not something we want to repeat but definitely not time to panic.
