“Wow, another great start by Masterson. 4.2 IP, 5 ER on 7 hits. A season ERA of 5.87. We should totally sign him to a $17 million a year contract!”

    Said nobody.

    • Sean Porter says:

I just heard that Masterson is the first pitcher in major league history to have two bad starts in a row. Mind blown.

      • Ghost of Joel Skinner says:

Just admit you’re an idiot an we’ll call it even.

      • D.P. Roberts says:

Well, I wouldn’t put it the way the previous commenter put it – I was just trying to be a tad snarky. After the first 5 games, when Masterson pitched a great game but the rest of the rotation was terrible, everyone was tripping over themselves to criticize the FO for not re-signing Masterson. Now, not so much. There was a bandwagon to sign him just a short while ago, and now there’s a bandwagon to get rid of him. I’m just generally anti-bandwagon (except for the Jesus Aguilar bandwagon, I’m totally onboard with that one. For now.)

        • Sean Porter says:

As so was I, D.P. Roberts. Masterson’s last two games have been trainwrecks, but seriously, is both side going to completely overact after every game he pitches this year? (Exactly the reason I didn’t even bother looking at this page after his first great start)

I’m going to watch this season unfold, and if Masterson ends the season with numbers similar to 2011 and 2013, I’ll regret that the Indians didn’t give him a 2 year deal for what he wants. If it ends up like his 2012 campaign, I’ll concede that the Indians were correct in not giving into his demands.

What I’m not going to do is get into this 30 more times, and for the sake of this board, I would hope most wouldn’t either. Allegedly, all of us here are Indians fans, and come here to follow and root on our favorite team.

    • Ghost of Joel Skinner says:

Correct. He tried to rip off the Tribe this offseason. For the love of God…his “market value” is NOT $17M.

He blew out his arm and is trying to cash in.

  • mondo dentro says:

Murphy just blew open the game!

  • Ghost of Joel Skinner says:

WAAAAAAAHH!!! WAAAAAAAAAAHH!!!! MASTERSON GETS NO RUN SUPPORT!!!

    wAAAH! WAAAAH……WAAAHHH……WHERE’S THE $17m?

OMG – GIVE HIM THE CHECK RIGHT NOW!!!

  • Ghost of Joel Skinner says:

OMG-OMG-OMG BETTER SIGN MASTERSON RIGHT NOW!!!! HE’S IRREPLACEABLE!!!! CAN’T POSSIBLY WIN WITHOUT A GUY WHO GOT A 7 ERA…..OMG, OMG, OMG, OMG – WRITE THE CHECK, WRITE THE CHECK………WRITE THE CHECK………PLLLLLLEEEAASSSSEEEE

    $17mmm – HE’S “EARRNNEEEEEDE ITTT”

  • mondo dentro says:

If you compare Masterson to other pitchers, sure, he’s not worth $17M. But stats alone don’t determine the price. What also matters is: what other pitchers are actually available? Bottled water is worth, what, 3 bucks? Unless you’re in a desert. Then it might cost you 20, no matter what the statisticians say about the value of beverages.

So, we let go Kazmir, who we could have had for 11 mil. We might lose Masty. Fine. Who’s going to pitch? As of now, we’re just hoping Salazar, Bauer, and Carrasco get it together. If they do, and Kluber and McAllister stay stable, we don’t need Masterson. If, if, if.

    • Ghost of Joel Skinner says:

      Pitchers available w/ a 7 ERA? – There’s a lot of them.

For GOd sake Cleveland – cut the cord on Masterson, he’s just NOT THAT GOOD.

      • Steve T. says:

This sort of imbecility is why I do not intend to return here. Having nearly every thread ruined by someone popping up like like a jackass-in-a-box on a regular basis ruins on otherwise good site with good writing.

        • Ghost of Joel Skinner says:

Good. Enjoy those 8-9 games w/ Masterson on the mound because he wants to *tear* *kleenex* stay here…and bank because his fastball has tanked and he knows it.

          Get a clue.

        • Sean Porter says:

The articles on this site are consistently pretty darn good, but the 15 year olds like Ghost who apparently were linked to this site recently from the Plain Dealer sports page are sadly making it almost not worth the trouble.

Now, it’s not my site, but if it was, or I was a writer on here, I’d seriously consider eliminate trolls such as Ghost before they and their ilk ruin a generally high-quality forum for Tribe talk.

          • SteveO says:

I second that motion. I agreed, the comments on here are usually cordial and intelligent, but this Ghost character keeps popping up everywhere and getting on my nerves….which is precisely the definition of an Internet troll. They exist solely to get on peoples’ nerves, and Ghost has apparently succeeded (Hey Ghost: congratulations, I think?). Generally, another “rule of the Internet” is that you shouldn’t feed the troll (aka just ignore it, no matter how annoying). And hypothetically, starving the troll will make it die/go away/get bored.

          • Ross says:

            I’ll third that motion.
