Now that the shock and anger of the Masterson extension talks has subsided (for now), I came across a couple interesting tidbits that will brighten the mood until Monday.

Let’s start with Tito. It’s no secret that we are all in on the guy. Not just because he brings instant and unquestionable credibility as the captain of the Indians’ ship after dealing with retreads, flame-outs and mid-season band-aids, but because he does cool stuff like this.

“When I went to take him out, (catcher Luke) Carlin was coming and I told him to stay back there a little bit,” manager Terry Francona said. “I went out there and asked ( Blake Wood) if he ever made the team on the mound? He was like no. I go ‘well, you just did.’ After that we came and talked to him the dugout but you could tell he was pretty excited.”

Not much more to say to that other than a smile.

And now for a special moment for Tom Hamilton, who set aside his prodigious pipes for a day to just be a dad.

So, y’see, baseball ain’t all doom and gloom. That stuff begins on Monday night.

Wow, what a great story. This kind of thing makes me want to root for the Indians, Francona, and even Wood a little bit more.

MLBTR is reporting the Indians have signed Yan Gomes to a six-year, $23 million contract that includes two free agent option years. This is very close to the deal Sizemore got after his first full year. It’s a risk and projection, but if that’s what it takes to keep good players on this team I’m all for it. Love Gomes anyway.
