Stephanie, I did not think you were saying it was his fault. I just want to make that clear.

I was merely commenting on the fragile fate of athlete's. Sometimes they put in as much conditioning and work as they can only to be mowed down by an unfortunate injury.

Stu - I think that's my problem...I just don't think he's worth the full 9 million. On a reduced contract, I'd love to see him in Cleveland a while longer.

i'm thinking grady knows he's not getting 9 mill next year, from us or anyone else....so that option is out the window...question is what can we pay him that will get him to stay...i think he's worth a flyer at a much lower number, and i'm thinking we're likely to pay a tad more given his history, clubhouse presence, etc than someone who doesnt know him at all and doesnt know if he'll ever be the same again....so i think it all may work out fine in the end.

Oh, I definitely don't think it's Sizemore's fault...I think he seems like a hard worker and is a great athlete. I think some people just end up prone to injury, whether it's genetics or just simply bad luck. I've heard that the Indians don't plan to sign him beyond 2012, and I feel like he still may not be 100% by next season. In fact, maybe that's what has been part of the problem. He kept trying to play through some injuries and ended up sustaining other injuries (I know I've seen that happen - you favor your other leg because of an injury, etc.). I still can't believe he was back for the last few weeks of the season...that knee had to bother him.

Usually, I find it difficult to believe that injuries suffered while playing a sport are somehow the fault of the athlete. In college, I was an equipment manager and was able to observe the players daily. I can remember guys who took all the conditioning drills seriously yet seemed to always be suffering unfortunate injuries and I can remember other guys who found ways to do as little conditioning as possible yet never suffered any "real" injuries.

I am not saying Sizemore should stay. I just refuse to use most of the injuries he has suffered as some sort of judgment against him. To me, he never appeared to be the kind of guy you could accuse of being lazy.

Also, in regards to Cleveland's outfield this past season, it seems to me that injured players were the norm, not the exception.
