I wouldnt worry too much about Bauer because everyone says they shouldnt have wanted to trade him. It just seems like Arizona keeps making terrible trades. They basically won the AL west for Oakland by giving them two VERY good young starters for Trevor Cahill (who ended up pitching worse than both of them).

Upton makes $14M in a year. That’s a little pressure to make sure he is your guy. They decided he wasn’t and got a solid corner and a top prospect. Even if Upton explodes you can’t say the deal was as bad as the Cleveland Phillips deal. Phillips was getting paid nothing and the Indians got nothing in return.

Hahahaha! I saw Marcum was nabbed, but I missed Jurrjens. What will irritate me is if they toss a million or two at one of those DH candidates from yesterday’s post. I’m really hoping they wouldn’t do that!

One last interesting option for pitching – Daisuke Matsuzaka. If he doesn’t go back to Japan, it may be worth seeing if he has anything left in the tank.

Well, we missed out on Jair Jurrjens. Baltimore got him for only $1.5M. What a bargain if he stays healthy. Marcum is off the board too. I guess the Dolans aren’t parting with any of that STO money. All they put in was the extra 10 from Fox, and most of that went to the manager and Hafner’s buyout. We have the lowest payroll in the division, half of Detroit’s and less than even KC. I guess they’re waiting to see if attendance picks up. It probably will with the offseason buzz. Maybe then if the team has a good first half the owner will throw in for a deadline pickup. I predict 6 games over .500 at the break and then we trade for Josh Hamilton from 3rd place LA. Oh wait, it’s time for my meds.

My theory is that Wedge just wanted more players that could play 3 positions poorly rather than 1 position well (or, alternately, simply some players that wouldn’t complain about playing completely out of position). That always seemed to work out well during his tenure.

Speaking of, we should probably give Lou Marson some innings in CF and Drew Stubbs some time at 3rd during spring training, just to get some flexibility.
