Some days, I think a AA pitcher would look like Cy Young against the Indians!

Peralta's numbers are insane this year. If he can't screw the Indians over by playing terribly for them, he'll screw them over by playing awesome against them!

23 homers allowed by Tomlin now this season - second most in the AL. Colby Lewis of Texas the only one who has given up more. The one saving grace - 15 of Tomlin's were solo shots.

They struggled against Scherzer the last time out too - on June 16, just 4 hits and 2 earned runs. The hit him well on April 29, but that's while the Tribe was still on fire. Really any pitcher (good or bad) looks like Cy Young on any given night.

Unfortunately, that 2-run home run may be enough for the Tigers...I don't have faith that the Indians are going to score any for Tomlin. Which is a shame, because other than that bad pitch Tomlin's had a great night.

I have a couple of good friends who are Detroit Tigers fans, and recently we joked that even though Detroit and Cleveland are neck and neck (with Chicago lurking) it sometimes felt as if we were competing just to see who would lose to New York or Boston. Of course anything can happen in the playoffs, and those teams could make silly mistakes as well. At least it won't be Minnesota this season; you pretty much knew how the ALDS was going to end before it started!

Hirschbeck was inconsistent at times, but after Tuesday night he did look excellent by comparison!

I almost pulled all of my hair out in the 8th. I typically trust Pestano, but that didn't mean my blood pressure didn't go through the roof.

Regardless of what happened, I never expected a pennant race this season. Despite their maddening moments, this is a fun team to watch.

you know what is absolutely uncanny that i never hear anyone comment on? how we are making another absolute horseshit no skill pitcher look like cy young....can someone explain to me how this guy starting for detroit has a 5 ERA and has allowed only 3 hits to our supposed major league bats? we should be beating this guy like a red headed step child and yet we allow him to mow us down and torture a legit 20 game winner like tomlin...where is the outrage?

Hirschbeck's strike zone was inside/outside and ridiculous! Hafner should have put up more of an argument. One pitch is a strike, another at the same spot isn't.

While the Indians won there was at least one troubling inning. Ahead 2-1, the Sox got a single and that man (Rios) moved to second on a wild pitch (maybe a passed ball). Then the Sox hit a single to left (there were two outs) and Brantley threw home. no cutoff, no chance at getting Rios and Flowers goes to 2nd on a hopeless throw. Fortunately, Masterson was able to get out number three and the Sox didn't score again.

What of it? Well, there's hope that the Indians will make the playoffs. The Yankees, Red Sox and the Rangers don't let you get away with these small mistakes. They capiatize on small mistakes like this.

It is probably the idea that this team has such an unexpected shot at the postseason that brings to mind their need to play smart.
