I love that story! Did you know that I perfected time travel and that I tried to instigate that 1947 scenario? (kidding!)

I saw this stat that the Indians and the Cubs are the only two teams left to never win the World Series with a non player-manager manager. It's been that long. If I had a time machine, I'd probably go back to 1997 and find a way to club Mesa's knee before he could enter the game. I hate to advocate any kind of violence, but I feel it would be necessary in this situation!

That's very funny, Stephanie and it reminds me of the proposed trade of Ted Williams for Joe DiMaggio. Rumor had it that Red Sox owner Tom Yawkey and Yankees GM Lee MacPhail agreed to the trade in 1947. It didn't happen because they were both drunk at the time and maybe more importantly, Yawkey wanted a prospect named Yogi Berra, too.

It's fun to imagine what that trade would have meant to both teams and to the American League. It's more fun to think of the Indians winning it all in 1948...or 1997. Ouch. Sorry, I shouldn't have gone there. I think I need a drink.
