I think it would have been by now. Perhaps the Cubs just were trying to call the Angels’ bluff – they knew they were the only team interested and figured if they’d bow out, they could try to sign Haren as a free agent when the Angels declined his option.

Wow, so no deal with the Cubs, the Angels decline his option and he becomes a free agent. If the rumors are correct, and it was the Cubs that backed out, you have to wonder if it had to do with his physical or something.

Even though I am EXTREMELY stingy when it comes to Lindor, I like they way you’re thinking. If the Indians trade Choo, they’re going to need to find two outfielders. I know they’re ultimately going to have that problem anyway, since Choo will likely be gone after next season. I just don’t think I could handle people cycling through both left and right next year!

And it looks like Haren went to the Cubs for Carlos Marmol. I can’t get over that one, I want to see when more details are released if there is more to it. Because unless the Angels ate $0, you’d have to think they could do better than Marmol as a return. That’s barely any return for Santana and Haren. If they’re clearing this much payroll, they must be prepping for something big – like a resign of Greinke, and maybe a run at Hamilton? They let their negotiating window run out with Torii Hunter.

I know it’s highly unlikely but I wouldn’t mind seeing a scenario where:

Indians Trade: Shin-Soo Choo, Chris Perez, and Francisco Lindor, PTBNL Type prospect
Angels Trade: Dan Haren, Mark Trumbo, and Peter Bourjous

Crazier things have happened right?
