I heard a rumor (and couldn’t verify it) that he had planned to start college this fall. To me, it sounds like he’s considering leaving baseball. If that’s the case, then it makes sense. Otherwise, I completely agree that it seems kind of silly to not keep him around when he’s still so young.

Steve, I completely agree…I was just saying yesterday that I don’t trust them if they were to attempt a fire sale.

I hope they do better this time if and when they trade the likes of Choo, Cabrera, Perez or Masterson. This team is miles away from being a real contender and they can’t afford any more mistakes.

For starters, even at the time of the trade there was talk of him being too much of an injury risk. And now, despite the injuries, he’s only 21! What do they have to gain by giving up on him? If he wants to retire he’s free to do so, but there’s no reason to let someone else attempt to resurrect his career if he chooses to do so.

Odds are this move will prove to be so insignificant we’ll never think about it again after today, but it’s still confusing for the moment.
