I'm guessing you don't consider the Twinkies or Royals MLB teams? ;-) They both had worse records than the Tribe before today's games started. Thanks to getting off the schnide we are still above both of those AL teams. But yeah, we still stink and the future doesn't look much better...

"When you’re a crappy ballcub—and the Cleveland Indians are now obviously a crappy ballclub"

I'd disagree. They'd have to get a lot better to be crappy. They've now staked out "worst in the American League" status and can only thank the Rockies and Astros for keeping it from being Major Leagues.

What's most distressing is that it this epic collapse reminds me how hard it is to see how the club will be any better next year. They're obviously not going to be signing any big ticket pitchers (both because they won't spend the money and because the Ryan Dempsters of the world are picky about where they play). So whatever improvement the rotation will experience will hinge on Masterson drinking his "2011 magic season" potion, Carrasco (who was hardly a stalwart before TJ) coming back, and maybe former Fausto if the Indians keep him.

The thing that disappoints me most is that the Indians keep sending Kotchman and Hannahan out there every day. DFA Kotchman and let us be disappointed by Lars Anderson or Matt LaPorta. Let Hannahan go and give Cord Phelps or Jared Goedert a chance to play 3B. It's hard to see the Indians losing more games by just dumping all the old guys over the remaining 50 games, and it's impossible for them to lose any more right now. And you'll have a hell of a time convincing me that journeymen corner infielders are the key to maintaining ticket sales.

SSDD. At least with the nooner we'll be put out of our misery sooner.

If you have a Droid phone I recommend the "YahooSportacular" app. Scores, stats, play-by-play for all sports, pro and college. Just make sure you have a charger handy.
