I took my kid and my nieces to the game last Monday night (because they wanted the Asdrubal bobblehead--turned out to be a fantastic game). I bought the tickets by phone that afternoon and picked them up at the will call. I believe there was a one dollar convenience charge per ticket (we sat in the same place where I bought tickets a few weeks before so I know what the price was as a walk-up).

I agree completely. By not buying beer, one could afford club level seats. Also, if I can't get good seats where you feel like you are in the game, it's best to just watch them on TV, I pay for MLB.TV. But sometimes, you just have to go to a baseball game and those times spending $30-40 a seat for like the 1-3 games that I will attend in a season doesn't bother me. I am super excited to be headed to Camden Yards on Friday night to see the team play. Hopefully this roller-coaster of a team won't whip back around in the next six days and that they are still atop the AL Central by then. KNOCK ON WOOD!!

I've done the 4 pack before and it's a nice deal.

The convenience charges are ridiculous. I know that he said to avoid crowds and not buy them as walk-up, but you avoid the fees that way.

One trick I've learned (although you have to keep your eyes peeled) is to check Stub Hub. Sometimes people just want rid of their tickets and give them away for insanely cheap amounts. Sure, you get hit with fees there as well, but if the base rate is super low, it's not that bad. Here's a story about how there were tons of Yankees tickets under $5 recently: http://deadspin.com/5916213/yankees-tickets-are-a-dollar-seats-are-empty-and-theyre-trying-to-blame-stubhub And tickets to the new Yankee Stadium aren't exactly cheap.

Speaking of the cost of going to a game, did anyone ask about "convenience" and "processing" charges? I went to a Pirates game recently and paid an extra $8.75 (not including tax) to buy a ticket online and print it out at home the day before. That's almost a full ticket in fees...

I wish I was still in Cleveland so I could take advantage of $10 bleacher tickets or the $96 4 pack. try going to dinner and a movie and getting out for less than $100, and the Indians even throw in free parking and 4 ball caps.

My feelings exactly. You don't "need" seven beers just as you don't "need" to eat dinner at the ballpark. And yes, I'm working on a piece on the comparative cost of going to a baseball game.

One thing I was thinking that's kind of jerkish of me (this is why I can't go, and subsequently, can't have nice things...I'd blurt these out) is the fact that I'm kind of annoyed that people were complaining about the cost. Not that cost isn't a legitimate complaint or anything, but that these are people who have essentially been given free tickets to sit in a freaking suite in the past, and they're complaining about cost. I feel like anything short of "gimmiegimmiegimeefree" with some of this crowd would be considered too expensive.

I also get annoyed when people complain that beer is $7.75, like the guys sitting next to me at a recent game. Look, I love beer...I drink lots of it. I've come to terms with the fact that the price is jacked at major league ballgames. You know what else? You're not going to die if you don't drink beer...I promise that life will go on. The complainers I mentioned - the one guy consumed 7 beers. That's $54.25. If you're willing and able to spend that, then more power to you. Just don't complain and whine that it's too much money...you didn't *need* 7 beers.
