Restore League Park with artificial turf? That's the dumbest thing I ever heard of. Why restore the park at all if that's the case? It doesn't make any sense to call it a "restoration" if that stuff is used. Besides, if artificial turf was more economical we'd be seeing it in people's yards.

I too visited Rickwood field in 2010. Without even seeing a game played there I'll never forget it. It was easy to imagine all the great players and teams playing there. It going be difficult to imagine Cy Young, Nap Lajoie, Addie Joss, Ty Cobb, Babe Ruth, Joe DiMaggio, the Blues, Bronchos, Naps, Indians and Buckeyes playing on artificial turf.

David, that's a really good question...I'm not sure if it would be just the infield, or everywhere. I got the impression it was everywhere, but I'm not necessarily certain of that.

I hate the turf at Tropicana, but I think the perfectly sealed dome kind of takes away from baseball as well. I love those roofs in newer parks (like Safeco in Seattle) that work more like an umbrella for everything.

Stephanie,

I agree that artificial turf at League Park III would be a travesty. Is the plan still to have turf used for the infield only, as has been discussed for a few years, or is there now some thought to having the entire field covered with turf?

I recall reading in 2009 that they wanted to have a turf infield that could be pulled up to accommodate different levels of play, from Little League to professional ball, but that always seemed ridiculous given the historic magnitude of the facility.
