Larry Doby was the all too often overlooked and under-rated member of the quartette of the 1950s superstar center fielders. The "other three" (Mickey Mantle, Willie Mays, and Duke Snider) had the advantage of playing under the bright spotlight of the New York media. Larry Doby was my favorite (due in some small part to my Indians bias, no doubt). I spent many hours "discussing" the relative merits of these great CFs with my fellow baseball fans. You know what? We all won! We all got to see and root for Doby, Mays, Mantle, and Snider when these HOF center fielders were at the top of their game!

My hat's off today to Jackie Robinson for integrating The Game and to Larry Doby on 5 July for integrating The Tribe and the American League!
