Shane Bieber completed one of the best games in franchise history on Sunday afternoon, striking out 15 in a complete game shutout of the Baltimore Orioles.
Here are some of the best notes on his performance:
- Bieber generated a Game Score of 92, tied for the third highest in Jacobs Field history. Corey Kluber holds the record (score of 98) in his 18-K game against the Cardinals in 2015. Ervin Santana’s no-hitter (94) comes in second. Bieber’s game is tied with a Justin Verlander two-hit shutout in 2009 and a Cory Lidle one-hitter in 2002.
- In the Baseball-Reference era, which includes almost all games dating back to 1908, Bieber is just the seventh AL pitcher with 15 strikeouts and zero walks in a shutout.

- Bieber’s 15 strikeouts are also the second most in Jacobs Field history, behind Kluber’s 18-K game. Kluber, Bauer, Carrasco (all three during the 2017 season) and Pedro Martinez (1999) were previously tied for second place with 14-K games.
- Bieber recorded 27 swings-and-misses in total, the highest mark by a pitcher this season, Blake Snell, Jacob deGrom and Matthew Boyd previously had games of 26. The last Indians pitcher to record more whiffs in a game was Carlos Carrasco during his near no-hitter in 2016 against the Rays (30 whiffs).
- In the Baseball-Reference era, Bieber is also the 13th player under the age of 24 with a 13-K game:
