The Indians return to Fenway Park tonight for their first time since they celebrated their sweep of the ALDS against the Red Sox last October. Mike Clevinger will face Doug Fister as the Indians try to start another winning streak.
The Red Sox claimed Fister off waivers from the Angels on June 23, and has appeared in 7 games for the Red Sox, 4 of which were starts. None of those starts have gone very well; in fact the only time he held the opponent scoreless was on July 24 against Seattle, when he pitched just one inning in relief. So after being stymied on offense in Sunday’s game, it gives the Indians a chance to bounce back.
Clevinger had a rough start in his last outing against the Angels, the team that originally drafted him in 2011. Clevinger received complaints about his gray glove, and was forced to use a different one. He went on to allow 5 ER on 9 hits in 4.1 IP. Clevinger spray painted his glove black though, to avoid any future complaints. Hopefully he returns to form tonight.
