Look, I’m not going to beat around the bush here. As I write this, it’s past 1:30 AM on Wednesday morning in Cleveland. No one wants to be up and writing a game recap at this hour, especially a recap of an indians loss.
And as the headline already told you (maybe I should have stuck a spoiler alert! on it), the Indians did lose to the San Francisco Giants, 2-1, on Tuesday evening at AT&T Park. You can click here to read an unbiased recap of the game, written by an anonymous Associated Press correspondent who probably didn’t care who won the game. I cared, though, and I’m tired, hot, and grumpy, so my own account will be brief.
Here’s what the Indians offense did: they scored one run in the top of the third inning when Brandon Guyer hit a triple with Bradley Zimmer on second base. Zimmer scored the first run of the game. It was the only run the Indians would score.
Here’s what else the Indians offense did: it hit into two double plays AND left six runners on base. It was 1 for 7 with runners in scoring position. One or two more hits at the right time, and the Indians win this game 3-1 or something like that. But it was not to be.
Here’s what the Indians pitching did: it did very well, right up until the end. Starter Mike Clevinger went six innings and allowed only one run, and that was unearned thanks to a two-base error by Guyer, who hustled to track down a fly ball. He caught up to it, but he did not catch it, and the batter reached second base, and scored on a single.
Clevinger made way for Bryan Shaw, Andrew Miller, and Cody Allen. Shaw and Miller were effective. Allen was not. In the bottom of the tenth, he gave up a leadoff double. A bunt single put runners on first and third. and defensive indifference led the runner at first to advance to second. Eduardo Nunez then lashed a single to right field, and the Giants won the game, 2-1.
The two teams wrap up the series on Wednesday afternoon. Carlos Carrasco and Matt Cain will pitch.
Now if you’ll excuse me, I’m going to take a shower, have some anti-grumpiness medicine (iced tea), and then go to bed. Thanks for reading.
