The Cleveland Indians haven’t been playing very well lately, but fresh off a 5-2 victory last night against the Texas Rangers, a win today would give the Tribe a series win and help them stay atop the American League Central.
The best thing they have going for them is that Corey Kluber will be on the mound today. To say that Kluber has been great lately would be an understatement. He’s been sensational. Over his last two starts, Kluber has pitched 16 scoreless innings while allowing six hits, two walks, and striking out 24 batters. After battling injuries earlier in the season, Kluber has been the Cy Young-caliber pitcher we have all come to expect him to be.
That doesn’t mean today’s game will be a walk in the park for the Indians. The Rangers counter with right-hander Andrew Cashner, who currently sports a 3.50 ERA over 12 starts this season. Cashner isn’t nearly as dominant as Kluber, as his 1.47 WHIP would show, but the Indians’ offense has been inconsistent at best lately, and is no sure thing against a quality starting pitcher.
