What with my having been on the road on the day it happened, and with the excitement of the Indians winning the ALCS and playing in the World Series, I somehow managed to overlook it, but former Indians player Eddie Carnett, the oldest living man to play in the major leagues, celebrated his 100th birthday on October 21.
I wrote about Carnett for IPL nearly four years ago, noting that he was then the oldest living former member of the Indians. He still is, of course, but he has since become the oldest living major league player
I don’t know whether Mr. Carnett follows his former team, but I’d like to think that he does. And as he grew closer and closer to the century mark, he must surely have wondered whether he would live long enough to reach that milestone. Happily, he did. And perhaps he wondered too if the Indians would ever again win the World Series in his lifetime.
Hang in there, Eddie. I think this is going to be the year the Tribe actually makes it.
