There is nothing worse in baseball than losing a game late in the night, and then have to come back to play early the next day. And last night the Indians last after a rain delay in heart-breaking fashion. Today they have a day game against their kryptonite: the last place Minnesota Twins. Josh Tomlin (9-2, 3.51) looks to lead the Indians to a series win against the Twins. Joe Mauer has had the most experience off Tomlin, batting .350. Tomlin struggled in his last start, but has been solid overall this year.
Kyle Gibson (2-5, 5.02) toes the mound for Minnesota. Yan Gomes who has famously been a season-long slump, has had great success off of Gibson. Jason Kipnis has also done well against the big right-hander. Both pitchers today have had extended days off because of the all-star break.
The Indians had four bench player come in the game last night, so nobody got a day off. The Indians need to take series against last-place teams. Here are the lineups for today’s game.
