Last week we released the voting from our inaugural Lajoie Award, picking up a tradition of the Cleveland Press from the early 1980s.

Jose Ramirez won the inaugural award. This week we have a shared award for the first time, between Tyler Naquin and Danny Salazar.

Naquin wasn’t even on the active roster when the week began, but after getting called up and going 6-11 with three home runs, he appeared on all but one ballot and led the way with the most first-place votes.

Salazar earned the honors on the strength of a dominant start against the Royals in which he struck out nine over eight innings of work.

Jose Ramirez (.391 BA) and Mike Napoli (four home runs) were the only others to receive votes.

I’ve really been impressed by Naquin so for this year. With the suspension of Byrd, I really hope he isn’t sent down to AAA again. I think he’s earned his spot on the team, at least for now.
