The Tribe hopes to even the three game set against the Twins on Tuesday night at 8:10pm. Making what could be a make or break start with a possible trip down 71 to Columbus in case of another poor outing, Cody Anderson faces Ricky Nolasco.
Anderson (0-1, 7.53 ERA) hasn’t had much go right in his first three starts. Over 14.1 innings, he’s given up 24 hits and a whopping five home runs. I don’t think the Indians can afford to be too patient if Anderson continues to struggle, even though the first man up, Trevor Bauer, has already been put into the injured Carlos Carrasco’s rotation spot. Here are three names to consider down in AAA:
Mike Clevinger: 2-0 in 4 starts, 3.20 ERA, 1.22 WHIP with 22 K’s in 19.2 innings.
Will Roberts: 2-1 in 3 starts, 2.08 ERA, 1.27 WHIP with 10 K’s in 17.1 innings.
Ryan Merritt: 1-2 in 3 starts, 3.24 ERA, 1.20 WHIP with 12 K’s in 16.1 innings.
Michael Brantley also makes his first start in left field for the big league club this season and bats fourth.
