Well, yesterday’s game was a letdown. I took half a day’s vacation time so I could leave work early to watch the game on TV at home. I consoled myself by saying at least I was comfortable and warm, and I didn’t have to pay $30 to park my car, but even so, I really wanted the Indians to open the season with a win. One or two more hits against David Price in the fourth inning might have made a big difference, but it was not to be.

I especially hated seeing David Ortiz hit a home run off Trevor Bauer. Ortiz is probably the player in MLB whom I most love to hate, and I’ll be glad when he retires and no longer gets to feast on Indians pitching. Hats off to the guy: he’s a great slugger, first ballot Hall of Famer and all that, but man, I can’t stand seeing him play against the Indians.

Today the Tribe and the Red Sox go at it again. The game time temperature should be about 54° at Progressive Field, which is about 20 degrees warmer than it was yesterday afternoon. That’s the good news. The bad news is that there’s about a 40% chance of thundershowers, expected, of course, right around game time. So cue up that REO Speedwagon, just in case.

By the way, I’m sure I speak for all the IPL writers when I say that we’re glad to be back here for another season, and that we’re glad you’re reading this blog. There wouldn’t be much point in our doing it if no one wanted to read it, so thank you for taking the time to do so. And remember, this is the year the Indians will win the World Series! Unless they don’t.

Here are today’s starting lineups, brought to you as always this season by the law offices of Davis & Main:
