Shhhhhhhhhhhhhhh… D’ya hear that? Sounds like baseball is getting closer!
It has been an inordinately quiet off-season, even for the Indians. With the team choosing to stay relatively untouched, there hasn’t been a whole lot going on and whether or not that is a good or awful thing varies from who you ask. The Royals and Tigers have predictably augmented their squads, while the Tribe have chosen to look towards the continued development of their current core.
The fact remains that the Indians are not that far away from being right in the AL Central mix, regardless of any flashy signings over the winter. And a good chunk of this year’s 25-man roster has decided to get a head start on the work before the boys head west to Goodyear.
It was a good turnout at Force Sports in Westlake as Jason Kipnis, Yan Gomes, Michael Brantley (doing agility drills and light catch with Gomes as he continues his shoulder rehabilitation), Corey Kluber, Cody Anderson, Abraham Almonte, TJ House, Lonnie Chisenhall, Giovanny Urshela, Francisco Lindor, Bryan Shaw, Jeff Manship, Zach McAllister, Cody Allen and new signees Mike Napoli, Rajai Davis and Collin Cowgill all got together for a bit of catching up.
Danny Salazar couldn’t make the fun and fellowship because he ran into flight trouble. Stupid January.
With TribeFest happening over the weekend, you could expect other names to pop up over the next couple days. The guys will also do the hospital rounds in the area over the next few days.
Feb. 17 is when pitchers and catchers report. Yay!
