With a sweep of the Twins the Tribe had reason to hopeful, but a tough series-opening loss puts them in a hole which is likely too deep to climb out of.
Danny Salazar allowed three runs on five hits in six innings of work and the bullpen did its job, but the Tribe offense was tamed by Ervin Santana.
Kipnis, Lindor and Brantley, who have been carrying the Tribe lately, went a combined 1-9 at the plate. Brantley was also removed from the game in the 4th inning with an apparent shoulder injury.
Michael Brantley left Tuesday's game with right shoulder injury from his diving attempt to catch Aaron Hicks' triple in the third inning.

The Angels knocked off the Astros, so the Indians technically remain 4.5 games back in the wild card. However the Tribe fell further behind both the Twins and Angels.
The Tribe now has 4.5 games to make up over three teams in 13 games.
