After having their four-game winning streak snapped by the Oakland Athletics late last night, the Cleveland Indians are back in action today at 4:05 to wrap up their series in Oakland. Unfortunately, fate seems to be working against the Tribe once again.
Second baseman Jason Kipnis, in the midst of a tremendous season in which he was the team’s only All-Star, has a sore right shoulder, and the team is considering putting him on the disabled list. While it would likely be the right move, it would remove one of the few consistent bats from a lineup that already struggles greatly to score runs. With the way the Indians have played this season though, making sure Kipnis is healthy for the future has to be a top priority.
On the pitching side of things, Trevor Bauer (it seems like every game I cover is a Bauer start) takes the hill against Sonny Gray of the Athletics. Bauer’s struggles since the All-Star Break are well documented, and Gray comes into the game with an 11-4 record and a 2.16 ERA after having made his first All-Star appearance this season.
Things look a bit bleak for the Tribe, but that’s why you play the game. Hopefully Bauer and the rest can rise to the occasion and clinch this series for the Indians.
