If you’re like a lot of Indians fans (including me), you’re still freaking out (at least a little) about Sports Illustrated putting Corey Kluber and Michael Brantley on one of its “MLB Preview ’15” covers and predicting the Tribe will win the World Series. This bad omen was covered beautifully in a March 24 post in this space.
But even more recently, mlb.com posted “125 MLB Predictions for 2015”. Admittedly, some of the predictions are purely meant to be comical. But out of 125 separate points, neither the Cleveland Indians nor any of its players are mentioned even once.
A couple of topics writer Will Leitch felt worth mentioning instead of the Tribe are:
45. The postseason camera will spend most of the game on Beyonce (a reference to the Seattle Mariners making the playoffs and the fact that Robinson Cano‘s agent is Jay Z).
46. At least until she leaves in the fifth inning.
88. Every time you see that statue in the Marlins outfield, you will groan and feel old.
Funny, right? But other points are offensive to the Tribe and its fans for reasons other than the sin of omission:
29. The White Sox…will become the first team to win the AL Central other than the Tigers since 2010.
So, to summarize: No mention of the Indians nor any of its squad in a whopping 125 predictions. Plus a prediction that the White Sox will win our division and bump our Cy Young Award winner with one of their own.
That’s just plainly disrespectful. “Then I guess there’s only one thing left to do. Win the whole f*in’ thing.” Go Tribe.
