Tune up your vocal cords! The Akron RubberDucks are offering tryouts to be Canal Park’s public address announcer.

Here is what it takes: “The team is seeking an enthusiastic, game-changer to lead the fun-filled fan experience at Canal Park. Candidates should have a strong, distinctive voice and an understanding of how a baseball game operates. Excellent reading skills and the ability to follow directions and remain calm in a busy environment are important, but a candidate’s ability to think on his or her feet and to create a fun environment every game at Canal Park are the key sought-after traits.”

I can attest to the fact that press boxes can be chaotic. You also will get a chance to flub the name of a millionaire athlete you never heard of before!

The Ducks play a 71-game home schedule and you would be working a lot of nights and weekends – but you would be at a ballpark!

You must register at the Ducks office by call 330-253-5151 from 9 to 5 p.m. Monday through Wednesday to reserve a time slot for the tryouts.

The tryouts will be Thursday, March 19, starting at 5:30 p.m. at Canal Park. You would enter through the main administrative office entrance located at 300 South Main Street. Show up at least 15 minutes early.

“The public address announcer is one of the most important parts of the game presentation, and therefore one of the most important in our organization,” said RubberDucks General Manager Jim Pfander. We are looking for an enthusiastic, upbeat personality who will set the tone and conduct of our nightly show, and not just someone who introduces batters and reads from a script.”

The news release said nothing about pay.
