Update from the AP’s Tom Withers:

—————————————————————————

Indians right-hander Danny Salazar is under investigation by the Cleveland police for a possible sexual assault.

The incident was first reported by PD reported Paul Hoynes, who noted that Roberto Perez was also under investigation. Hoynes and others have since amended the report, stating that Perez is not involved in the investigation.

Details of the case are unclear, but the incident reportedly occurred on January 23 while Salazar was in town for TribeFest.

It’s far too early to pass any judgement on Salazar, but given the recent attention placed on such cases stemming from the Ray Rice incident, it’s fair to assume this won’t be taken lightly by the Indians or MLB.

Salazar will be in competition for the 4th and 5th spots in the rotation this spring with Gavin Floyd, T.J. House, Josh Tomlin and Zach McAllister.

He was cleared of the charges just a few hours after the story broke.

While I’m sure Salazar is thrilled at this news, I bet he’s a little salty that he wasn’t cleared BEFORE news broke of this.
