Filling the void left by the departure of Kevin Cash to the Rays, the Indians announced that former pitcher Jason Bere would step in as the new bullpen coach in Cleveland.

Bere should be a familiar name to Tribe fans due to his two brief stints with the team in the early 2000s.

The Tribe first acquired Bere in 2000, in the deal which sent Richie Sexson and others to the Brewers for Bere, Bob Wickman and Steve Woodard. Bere would then return to the Indians in 2003, spending three seasons battling injuries in an effort to return to his big league form.

Upon retiring in 2005, Bere was offered a job in the Indians baseball operations department, where he has been ever since.

While Bere is hardly an Indians legend, it is nice to see someone who has been a part of the organization, both as a player and executive, for over  a decade get rewarded for his loyalty and given a chance to pursue a coaching career.
