Dear Santa:

Since we’re now well into single digits as we count down to Christmas, I would like to get in one last request. It’s a big one. But no pressure to deliver by Christmas morning. In fact, you can take until the end of March, if that makes it easier for you.

What many Tribe fans like me really, really want for Christmas is a real DH. You know, someone with an OPS north of .850. At least 25 home runs. Definitely 100 RBI or more.

Now, I realize not every MLB player can be a Victor Martinez or a David Ortiz. That’s why this wish definitely can be classified as Christmas magic if you make it come true.

Because sure as Rudolph’s nose is red, the Indians aren’t going to spring the kind of cash to land proven sluggers like those guys. But, c’mon, St. Nick. We had guys at DH hitting south of the Mendoza line too frequently in 2014. And the lack of DH run production that went with it.

We know you already blessed us with a Cy Young winner, a top three MVP finalist and an A-list manager. And the young arms that emerged from the gift wrap last year look oh so promising. That’s why we feel oh so close to having the pieces to make the playoffs. We already come oh so close to making it last year for the second season in a row. A real DH may be the last thing missing to get there again.

So please, Santa. Let a guy like Brandon Moss have a breakout year to be what we want, whether at DH or as a position player. Or give us a nice surprise who is undervalued and over-delivers, even if it’s just for one season. I promise to ship a whole pallet of cookies to the North Pole if you do.

Your biggest fan,

Stan

P.S. I know I said only one last request. But if you’re feeling extra generous, we also would love a third baseman who’s the second coming of George Brett or Mike Schmidt. And we can never have enough good pitching.
