It’s September 1st. Most of us are marking the day as Labor Day and enjoying a day off from work or school. Baseball junkies are also looking at the calendar and freaking out that there is now just one month left in the regular season. There’s still work to be done. Clevelande is 3.5 games behind 1st place Kansas City in the AL Central and 3.0 games behind 2nd place Detroit. Most of us were hoping the Indians would only be 2.5 games behind KC, at least that’s how it looked going into the bottom of the 10th inning with the Indians ahead 4-2. Last night’s game rain-suspended game will resume on September 22nd when the Royals visit Progressive Field. Not including last night’s game, the Indians were 17-9 in August.
This afternoon’s match-up features Corey Kluber, Savior of the Rotation (13-8, 2.52) vs. David Price (12-10, 3.32). The Indians have not yet faced Price this season, but are 2-5 all-time against him.
Indians’ starting lineup:
Bourn, CF
Ramirez, SS
Brantley, LF
Santana, 1B
Gomes, C
Kipnis, 2B
Aviles, RF
Aguilar, DH
Chisenhall, 3B
Tigers’ starting lineup:
Kinsler, 2B
Hunter, RF
Cabrera, DH
Martinez, 1B
Martinez, LF
Castellanos, 3B
Avila, C
Suarez, SS
Carrera, CF
mike fucking aviles responsible for countless runs by letting innings continue. league avg defense, is that too much to ask for?
Victor Martinez always makes me a sad panda. I still have his stupid baseball and its not like we even have a good Justin Masterson anymore to make me feel better for that trade.
no doubt klubestar wasn’t sharp today, but the defense (mike aviles) didn’t do him any favors per usual
I’d rather have Tyler Holt in right.
zach attack! not quite your wish but walters is in right and Mickey Z is on the bump
They took Aviles out of the game. Bold move.
right move
Baseball is such a cruel game. Now that we were just starting to feel like the rotation *might* be coming around, Kluber is fading?! He hasn’t been as bad as he was tonight, but he hasn’t been super sharp the last three outings, either. I’m just hoping he’s not injured.
i don’t think it’s as severe as he’s “fading” but he definitely didn’t have his best stuff. you compound that with shitty defense and you dig yourself a hole.
i’d wait for the next 2-3 starts to see make a call on if his stuff is falling off
Hey, I’m a Tribe fan. I panic quickly!
hey man im with you. it’s effing hard not to be pessimistic as shit about this team, especially this year with how inconsistent/frustrating they’ve been. to reduce stress levels i have found a happy medium in being a cautious optimist. but for sure even that is hard at times.
I’m with you–today was very bad, and I’m definitely worried about him. Despite the fact that the rotation looks really good right now, he’s still the only starter I had complete faith in.
tommy hams said this a few weeks but is applicable here: “the indians defense is alway lurking in shadows.”
Great quote, F’ing great quote! And so true. It’s painful!
Ugh. Stick a fork in it.
