The Indians locked up an old, yet vital, piece of their bullpen today for the foreseeable future, bringing back Scott Atchison for at least one more year.
The two sides came to an accord for the 2015 season which an option for 2016. The Prehistoric One has showcased skills that belies his appearance this year, posting a 6-0 record with a 2.95 ERA in 53 relief appearances, striking out 37 and walking nine in 55 innings. For his career he’s 16-10 with a 3.51 ERA in 258 Major League appearances.
But as with the many things concerning the elderly, this contract may not be fully played out for Grandpa Scott. But based on his performance alone this year, and his steady hand guiding a sometimes frustrating Tribe ‘pen, his wisdom of the ages is a great resource to have.
