Maybe the facial hair preordained John Axford as a pirate long before he ever came to Cleveland. In any case, he’s no longer an Indian. The Cleveland Indians today awarded Axford’s trade waiver claim to the Pittsburgh Pirates. His contract has now been assigned to Pittsburgh’s Major League roster Axford appeared in 49 games for the Indians this year, going with 2-3-10 with a 3.92 ERA. Axford’s last appearance for the Tribe was in the 6-10 loss against the Yankees on August 8th, when he pitched .2 innings and gave up 4 earned runs. (To be fair, he only gave up one earned run in the 10 appearances before that.)

The Indians’ 40-man roster stands at 37 players. They’re set to make some moves to the 25-man roster before game against the Orioles on Friday night. Who do you want to see brought up? Anybody on waivers you’d like to see the Tribe snag?

  • the front office has done a great job of getting rid of the movable deadweight on the roster. now if only we could trick some GM into getting drunk and placing a claim on swisher and/or bourn.

i know we don’t want to rush him and ruin his development, but you said who you wanted to see brought up…LINDOR LINDOR LINDOR!!!

I know I’m going to be in the minority on this, but I actually would prefer that Lindor didn’t come up this season, and in fact, wouldn’t be real upset if he started next year in Columbus. The kid is so young, and while he’s a talented player for sure, I just worry that he’s going to be over his head. I also really like how Ramirez is playing at short.
