It’s Josh Tomlin vs. Drew Smyly today in Detroit, as the Indians look to close out their four-game series with another win. I’m still trying to suppress the memory of Tomlin’s last outing against the Tigers, where he gave up 5 ER on 8 hits in just 4 IP on June 22. However, when Tomlin faced the Tigers earlier this season on May 21, he allowed just 1 ER on 2 hits in 3 IP (he was actually the final pitcher in a 13-inning game; McAllister was the starter).

As for Smyly, the Indians have seen him just once this season – on May 19. They managed to get 3 ER off of him, on 7 hits over 5 IP. Tribe batters hit.318/.444/.364 off of Smyly.
