On Tuesday the Indians sent Zach McAllister back down to Columbus. A corresponding move has yet to be made, although it may pave the way for Danny Salazar to make his return to Cleveland over the weekend.

According to Zach Meisel of The Plain Dealer, Terry Francona has hinted that Salazar would be the choice to start the second game of Saturday’s doubleheader against Detroit.

Here’s how the rotation is expected to shake out to start the second half:

Friday at Detroit – Trevor Bauer (already confirmed by Francona)

Saturday Game 1 at Detroit – Corey Kluber (confirmed by Francona)

Saturday Game 2 at Detroit – Salazar (expected but not announced)

Sunday vs Detroit – Josh Tomlin (expected by not announced)

Monday at Minnesota – T.J. House (confirmed by Francona)

Justin Masterson is eligible to rejoin the rotation at Minnesota, but the Indians have given no indication that he will be ready to return. If Masterson isn’t ready, the Indians would have the option of recalling McAllister to take his spot, or they could simply stick with the five they already have on the roster (assuming Salazar gets recalled).

The decision to go with Salazar over McAllister in Detroit is an odd one. McAllister pitched well in his first start back in the big leagues before the All-Star Break, meanwhile Salazar continues to struggle with his command (he walked six batters in six innings in his last start on July 10).
