While he didn’t win the final vote for the All Star Game, Corey Kluber still has a chance to win his final start before the break.  He’ll take on Hector Noesi and the White Sox tonight, to open the Tribe’s final series of the homestand.

Kluber is coming off yet another brilliant outing against the Kansas City Royals last Sunday, where he surrendered just 1 ER on 4 hits in 8.1 IP.  Kluber has already seen the White Sox twice this season, and is 0-0 with a 1.76 ERA.  Chicago’s batters are hitting .204/.232/.352 against him in 2014.  One of the reasons Kluber lost both of those games – spectacular collapses by John Axford in the ninth inning.  In Chicago on April 13 it was a walk-off home run by Alexi Ramirez that drove the final nail into the Indians’ coffin.  On May 4 in Cleveland, it was Dayan Viciedo’s three-run home run in the top of the ninth to come back from a 3-1 deficit to eventually win 4-3.

As for Noesi, he’s coming off a great start against Seattle last Sunday, where he gave up 0 ER, and just 5 hits in 6.2 IP.  Noesi’s had his struggles this year as well, but seems to be one of those guys that when he’s on, he’s on.  He has good career numbers against the Indians – in 3 starts he’s 0-0 with a 2.81 ERA.  The Tribe’s offense has batted .203/.266/.373 off of him.  When Noesi faced the Indians earlier this year on May 28 they hit just .185/.185/.296 off of him as he allowed just 1 ER on 5 hits in 7.1 innings pitched.  I remember crankily watching on my phone while stuck at the Newark airport, since I’d missed my connection to Scotland.  Seems like it was just yesterday.

let’s hope they’ve finally figured out the concept of “don’t throw anything over the plate to abreu”. i’m so sick of watching that guy pound the ball.

Even though he was hurt every other month, I’d have to guess that Travis Hefner is the answer to the trivia question, if for no other reason than he was there during the whole time frame.

  • Ryan McCrystal says:

    #TribeTrivia answer: Jhonny Peralta, 902 games… followed by Pronk (841), Grady (821), V-Mart (809), Blake (741) and Broussard (449)

  • Cale says:

I’m a little late on this because I was at Buffalo Wild Wings eating and watching the game, but why in the world was Kipnis swinging at the first pitch in that AB in the 4th. He just walked in a run on 4 pitches…why would you swing at the first pitch and hit a weak grounder?

That’s the saddest list I’ve ever seen. Depressing really.
