This evening, the Indians begin a three-game series with their foes from the 1920 World Series, the Los Angeles Dodgers.  Of course, they were still in Brooklyn at that point; owner Walter O’Malley didn’t move the team west until 1958.  In fact, that reminds me of a good joke I’ve heard from fans of the Brooklyn Dodgers.  In front of you sits Adolf Hitler, Joseph Stalin, and Walter O’Malley.  You have a gun with two bullets, what do you do?  The answer?  You shoot Walter O’Malley twice.  As you can imagine, Brooklyn fans were a wee bit upset about the move.

Before I get back to the present, I should add that this series also pairs up the first two teams to integrate the major leagues.  Jackie Robinson, on April 15, 1947 and Larry Doby, on July 5, 1947.  It’s interesting that there are several historical connections between the Indians and the Dodgers, especially considering the different leagues and after 1958, the distance between the two.

Corey Kluber takes the mound this evening against Dan Haren, as the Indians hope to bounce back offensively after being shut out with just one hit yesterday against Felix Hernandez.
