Well, the Tribe’s had a day to regroup from a tough series against the Tigers. They head out to Arizona tonight to kick off an eight-game west coast road trip.

This could prove to be a season-defining road trip for the Tribe. Earlier this season, against the Giants and Angels, the Tribe was swept on a six-game road trip for just the second time in franchise history. If that streak continues, the Indians are in trouble.

Unfortunately they may have the wrong man on the mound tonight. Justin Masterson is 1-4 with a 7.49 ERA and a 1.93 WHIP in his last seven starts on the road.

Before we get to the lineups.. I’m gonna start occasionally tweeting out a #TribeTrivia question and including it in these game previews. Take your best shot in the comments section or tweet at me. I’ll tweet out the answer later tonight.

I think the answer is Doug Jones. I seem to remember that, after those years, the Indians had the brilliant idea of making him a starter. Did. Not. Work. That dude pitched slower than a geriatric slug. And then he took something off of that for his changeup.

and something off of that for his change of pace changeup

Jones as a starter was in interesting experiment. He was awful out of the pen that year (lost the closers job to Shawn Hillegas in June).. but he wasn’t quite as bad as you remember as a starter in September. In 4 starts: 3-1, 3.77 ERA, 24 K, 6 BB… check out this box score from his second career start. Dominated the Tigers http://www.baseball-reference.com/boxes/CLE/CLE199109170.shtml

wow. there was a dapperly bespectacled Alex Cole sighting in that game. Who knew he had a .360 career OBP? That’s not bad!

    masterson just straight up blows

  • Jack Glasscock's Cup says:

I know I argued in another game post that bases loaded, no outs results in no runs almost 18% of the time, making it not so rare of an occurrence, but it still sucks the big fat thumb of the ugly Kardashian when it happens.

Masterson started, in a valiant effort I might add, to try to repeat the feat to show just how common it is, but Tito, considerate man of my Fred Sanford heart that he is, took time away from ingesting Double Bubble to force an exit, stage left.

This has to be the end of Asdrubal, the guy cant even do a run down correctly. He is killing this team.

Has a worse defensive infield ever been assembled?

Remember: John Axford was worth $4.5 million a year but Joe Smith was not.
