The Indians start a four-game series against the Red Sox at Fenway Park tonight. Yes, yes, we swept the Red Sox at home just over a week ago. The Red Sox are 29-36 (.446), good enough for 4th place in the AL East. (Funny thing, if they were in the “weak” AL Central, they’d be in last place.) At 33-33, the Indians are tied with the White Sox for 3rd place in the AL Central. Ah parity…
Josh Tomlin (4-2, 3.12) gets the start tonight against southpaw Jon Lester (6-7, 3.52). Tomlin had a great game on Saturday against the Rangers, going 8.0 innings, allowing 3 earned runs, no walks, and striking out 5. Let’s hope he had another strong outing tonight, because Boston will be looking for revenge.
The other big news is that Nick Swisher has been activated from the DL. To make room on the roster, Jason Giambi was sent back to the DL with phantom left knee inflammation. Okay, I don’t know if it’s a phantom injury or not. I do know that there really isn’t anybody else on the roster they’d be willing and able to send down to Columbus. Keeping Giambi on the DL means they keep his presence in the clubhouse as an extra coach. I can live with that, just don’t take at-bats away from the productive guys.
