After months and months (and months) of waiting, Opening Day is finally here!  It sounds like the torrential rain has finally ceased in Oakland and they’ll actually play some baseball this evening.  Since the Oakland Coliseum already experienced a lot of flooding this weekend (with their semi-regular sewer backups) make sure to have all of your best poop jokes ready for tonight’s game.

The lineups:

Cleveland:

Nyjer Morgan – CF

Nick Swisher – 1B

Jason Kipnis – 2B

Carlos Santana – 3B

Michael Brantley – LF

Ryan Raburn – DH

Asdrubal Cabrera – SS

David Murphy – RF

Yan Gomes – C

Justin Masterson – P

Oakland:

Coco Crisp – CF

Josh Donaldson – 3B

Jed Lowrie – SS

Brandon Moss – DH

Yoenis Cespedes – LF

John Jaso – C

Josh Reddick – RF

Daric Barton – 1B

Eric Sogard – 2B

Sonny Gray – P

Also – I should note that Drew Pomeranz made the team and is in the bullpen.  So there’s a chance we could see him this week.

Now it’s time for some words we’ve waited for allll winter – Play Ball!

    Kipnis stinks!

J/K – must be Opening Day jitters. 😉

    • Stephanie Liscio says:

Heh. I love the patience in the first though. Disappointing outcome, but they made Gray struggle and didn’t do much to help him out.

      • Steve T. says:

I agree. (And the Opening Day jitters are mine, not Kipnis’s.) One of my frustrations last season was too little patience at the plate by Tribe hitters. looks like they’ve been working on that.

        • Steve T. says:

Except for Murphy, who is so eager he can’t even wait for a pitch which is actually in flight and not rolling through the mud in front of home plate.

  • SeattleStu says:

can’t say i disagree w/ that ruling….morgan needs to have better AB there.

  • Stephanie Liscio says:

Fast forward this video just past the minute mark. This was me just now.

  • Shaun says:

Murphy for opening day goat for his crappy 2 out ABs!!!

  • Vern Morrison says:

OK, the Indians are going to score a couple of runs in the 8th.

    • Stephanie Liscio says:

I don’t want to watch the Beavis and Butthead video again. I’ve watched it like 43 times.

  • Weston says:

Glad to see someone is burning the midnight oil. It’s so much nicer on west coast time. Here we go guys! Top 9 and Murphy got a key hit, should negate earlier goat mentions.

    • Stephanie Liscio says:

Whenever I’m on the west coast, I feel like a responsible adult with responsible bed times for the first time in my life.

  • shaun says:

    Yup I recall goat comment!!

  • D.P. Roberts says:

I hope Gomes is okay. At least he’s right handed…
Morgan and Swisher! Axford will get his first chance for a close.

  • Weston says:

YES!!!! Concerned about Gomes HBP, we certainly don’t need that. But things looking, good, Axford can close this one out!

  • Weston says:

Or maybe Kip, Santana, and Dr. Smooth can all get hits and this will no longer be a save situation!

  • Mary Jo says:

Made it through the first eight innings sans drink. After the bottom of that 8th inning I headed to the kitchen for my glass of wine. Told my hubby that I’d probably miss a first-batter home run for the Tribe. Nope, got back in time to hear us score the first run. It must be the wine! I’ll be drinking from the first inning tomorrow night. 😉

  • Steve T. says:

What is it with Indian closers?…

  • Steve T. says:

And as soon as I post that we win!!!!!!!

  • D.P. Roberts says:

Axford is being haunted by the ghost of Chris Perez…

    Come on, say it Hammy…

    BALLGAME!

    • Steve T. says:

Wickman, then Borowski, then Perez and now Axford. Now I know why the Cleveland Clinic is noted for their heart health program – lots of practice.

  • Norm says:

Underrated tonight, Masterson who was known for his wide righty lefty splits shut down a lineup with 7 lefties tonight. Good win tonight.

  • Kahanca says:

Could you ask for a better opening day test? Masterson pitched out of a couple tight spots, the offense produced but didn’t cash in till late, Scrable and Cody worked through some early season heat and Axford got the save! God I love baseball! Roll Tribe!

    • SteveO says:

Let’s just say that Oakland’s plumbing system wasn’t the only thing stinkin’ up the joint last night… 🙂
