Game 2 of the series with Oakland is tonight, as Ubaldo Jimenez takes on Dan Straily for the Athletics. (And the Indians probably hope to strand less than 600 runners tonight.) Straily (6-6, 4.19 ERA) is coming off a fantastic start against the Blue Jays – he gave up just 1 ER on 6 hits, walking 3 as he pitched 7.1 innings for the win. The Indians have not faced the 24-year-old right-hander before. I personally find Straily to be an intriguing pitcher; I saw him pitch in a game this spring (in which he struggled) and also traveled to Pittsburgh to take on the Pirates and Gerrit Cole. I expected Cole to be the story of the evening, but Straily was fantastic. He had a bad start against Toronto at the end of July; otherwise, he’s been quite good since the last week of June. His ERA is inflated from appearances early in the year.
Jimenez faced the Athletics in Cleveland earlier this year, where he allowed 2 ER on 4 hits over 5.2 innings pitched, earning the win. Jimenez has good career numbers against the Athletics – 2-0 with a 3.57 ERA and a 1.472 WHIP; Oakland batters have hit .246 off of him. In his only other game at Oakland Coliseum, he won, allowing 2 ER on 6 hits in 6 innings pitched.
Tribe’s lineup for tonight:
Michael Bourn CF
Nick Swisher 1B
Jason Kipnis 2B
Carlos Santana C
Michael Brantley LF
Asdrubal Cabrera SS
Jason Giambi DH
Lonnie Chisenhall 3B
Drew Stubbs RF

I really like Michael Brantley. Can’t say enough about the job he has done this year.

Well, Bourn and Cabrera snapped their slumps. Now it’s Lonnie’s turn.
