I had the opportunity to attend an event at Progressive Field last year on a non-game day. As I was leaving, I stopped to take some pictures of the field and the ballpark. I had almost forgotten about them until this morning, when I was on the treadmill at the Y and saw a segment about today’s home opener. They had some early morning shots of Progressive Field, lights on in the early morning gray.
Having grown up going to games (and working a summer as a beer and dog vendor) in the cavernous Municipal Stadium, Progressive Field can seem small compared to my memories. But devoid of people and players, it appears huge. An empty ballpark is not lonely. The home opener starts in a few hours, and Progressive Field will be filled to the gills with fans, vendors, players, and media. But for now, it’s a silent ball full of potential, like a flower bud getting ready to burst open. Happy home opener to you.
