Just a quick note as the pitchers and catchers sit on the runway:

It appears the Indians have found their designated-hitter for 2013 in Jason Giambi.  He will receive, at the very least, an invitation to Spring Training with the club in Goodyear, Arizona. The former Athletic, Yankee and Rockie has been one well known for the peaks and valleys during his career . Strictly speaking in terms of numbers, he’s brings a slash-line of a .280 average with 429 homers and 1,405 runs batted in. So he could potentially still be that extra power thump that the Tribe needs.

Of course, Giambi comes with his share of PED baggage in which he confessed to during his Yankee tenure.

Should he be able to manage his chronically balky back, it could be a sneaky-good signing here at the tale end of baseball’s winter by Chris Antonetti. If nothing else, he can be a veteran presence appreciated by teammates, media and fans alike, as he’s known as one of baseball’s “good guys.” More importantly however, the Indians would like him to be a viable piece of their lineup. And they hope that Giambi has found the fountain of youth or a time machine to do it.
