You may have overlooked it, what with all the last-minute holiday shopping you probably had to do, and the dinners with Aunt Sally and Uncle Joe, and the New Year’s Eve celebrations and whatnot, but at some point in the last week or so, the Cleveland Indians announced their schedule for spring training for 2013.
Pitchers and catchers report to the Goodyear Ballpark in Goodyear, Arizona, on February 10, a mere 39 days from the date of this post. The rest of the squad reports three days later.
The Indians begin their Cactus League exhibition schedule with a home game versus the Cincinnati Reds on Friday, Feb. 22, followed by an “away game” with the Reds (who also play their home games at Goodyear Ballpark) on Saturday, Feb. 23. The last Cactus League game for the Tribe is a home game with the Reds on Saturday, March 30.
The Indians kick off the regular season on Tuesday, April 2, when they travel to Toronto for a three-game series with the Blue Jays. After that, it’s on to Tampa for a three-game series with the Rays. The first home game for the Tribe takes place in Progressive Field on Monday, April 8, when the Indians host the New York Yankees for a four-game home stand. This will be the only time the Yankees come to town in 2013.
More information about the exhibition season, including purchasing tickets to any or all of the games at Goodyear Ballpark, can be found at the spring training section of the Indians website.
