Back in April, the ItsPronouncedLajaway writers contributed to a group post in which we all provided answers to five questions. It seems only fair to check back and see how our predictions stand up.
Question 1 was: How many games will the Indians win this season? All of us predicted more than 80 wins. Brenden predicted 82, which was the closest to the actual 68 wins.
Question 2 was: Who/what will be the biggest surprise? We had two votes for Jeanmar Gomez (started 17 games, pitched 90.2 innings, went 5-8 with a 5.96 ERA); two votes for Derek Lowe (start 21 games, pitched 119 innings, went 8-10 with a 5.52 ERA and was released on August 10); one vote for Shelley Duncan (played 81 games, hit .203 with 31 RBI, DFA’d on August 29)–really, we thought these were going to be pleasant surprises–and one prediction that Vinnie Pestano (70 innings pitched, 2.57 ERA) would be less effective than he was in 2011. So we were all bass akwards on this one.
Question 3 was: Who/what will be the biggest disappointment? We had two Dan Wheelers, two Ubaldo Jimenezes, one Jason Kipnis, and one Grady Sizemore. It could be argued that all of us were correct. Clearly Indians fans are well versed in disappointment. Note that none of us predicted the August free fall that could rival the Red Bull Space Jump.
Question 4 was: What will it take for the Indians to win the AL Central? Let’s just say that we were all wrong, wrong, wrong. In Will’s case, I’m relieved that his prediction of a zombie apocalypse didn’t come to pass.
Question 5 was: Who will spend the most days on the DL during the regular season? Everybody but Brenden predicted Grady Sizemore. Brenden tagged Carlos Carrasco. We were all correct.
No predictions for 2013 yet (thank goodness).
