The Indians announced today that outfielder Ezequiel Carrera has been recalled from AAA Columbus. To make room for him on the 25-man roster, outfielder Johnny Damon has been designated for assignment.

The initial question on this move might be why Damon instead of Shelley Duncan?

A quick glance shows that Damon and Shelley Duncan are both hitting .222. Duncan has a slightly better on-base percentage and slugging percentage: .316 OBP vs. Damon’s .281 and .416 SLG vs. Damon’s .329. Defensively, Damon has a .980 fielding percentage vs. Duncan’s .972.  Even though Duncan is out of options, I can’t help but think Duncan’s days in the Bigs are numbered. A low number.

Nothing like purging all the deadweight AFTER we’re out of contention. Hopefully Duncan and Kotchman are next?

just dont dump anyone hitting over .300 or anyone with an ERA under 4 is all i ask…

    Stu,

Do we have anyone that meets those requirements?

And as for Damon, forget the fielding numbers. Every time he touched the ball in the field, it meant an extra base for the runner because of his arm.
